Frequently Asked Questions

Road freight rates: ₹8–15/kg for Full Truck Load (FTL), ₹15–35/kg for Less-than-Truck-Load (LTL), plus fuel surcharge (7–15%) and GST (5% on transport). Rates vary by route, vehicle type, and commodity. Chargeable weight is the higher of actual weight or volumetric weight (Volume in cm³ / 5,000 for air, / 4,000 for road LTL).

Volumetric weight = L × W × H (in cm) / 5,000 for air freight, / 4,000 for road LTL. If volumetric weight exceeds actual weight, you pay for volumetric weight. A 10kg box measuring 60×60×60cm has volumetric weight of 43.2kg — you pay for 43.2kg. Packaging efficiently can significantly reduce freight costs for light bulky goods.

E-way bill is mandatory for goods movement above ₹50,000 value under GST. Generated on GST portal (ewaybillgst.gov.in) before movement. Valid for 1 day per 200km for normal cargo, 1 day per 20km for oversized. Transporter, supplier, or receiver can generate it. Penalty for non-compliance: ₹10,000 or tax amount, whichever is higher.

Road: flexible, door-to-door, best for under 1,000km, ₹12–25/kg. Rail: cheapest for bulk over 1,000km, ₹5–8/kg, terminal-to-terminal. Air: fastest (1–2 days anywhere), ₹150–400/kg, for time-sensitive or high-value goods. Sea: cheapest for exports (₹5–15/kg), 15–30 days. Choose based on time sensitivity and value-to-weight ratio.

Road transport by GTA (Goods Transport Agency): 5% GST when GTA pays GST (RCM applicable to recipient). 12% GST on GTA services where ITC is available. Air freight: 18% GST. Rail freight: 5% GST. Sea freight (international): 0% IGST for export, 5% for coastal shipping. GTA services to unregistered persons: 5% under RCM.
